2022 Travel Bucket List

While 2022 has begun with a few uncertainties, the previous year has equipped us with the strength and experiences to overcome anything. With the resolution to travel more, seek new experiences, and live life to the fullest, we're making the most out of 2022. 

We compiled a list of 22 travel bucket list destinations - a combination of what our friends have on their lists and some of our own. 

1. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Known for its artistic heritage, picturesque canal system, and rich cultural scene, Amsterdam is one of the most vibrant cities in Europe. 

For the romantics and active alike, cycle down to Amsterdam’s UNESCO protected canal belt and enjoy a sunset like no other. 

Fun Fact:  Amsterdam is one of the most cycling friendly cities in the world. With over 800,000 bicycles in the city, the population of bikes is much greater than people! 

2. Barcelona, Spain

Known for its architecture, passion for sports, beaches, relaxed culture, nightlife and more, Barcelona has something for everyone at any budget.

Catch a glimpse of Gaudí's wonderous architectural creations from the street or purchase a ticket to tour around inside. Refuel after a long day of touring at a Michelin Star restaurant or a local tapas bar. 

Fun Fact: Antoni Gaudí's famous Basilica of the Sagrada Familia took longer to complete than the Egyptian Pyramids. 

3. Caye Caulker, Belize

Known as the jewel of the Caribbean Sea, Caye Caulker is the definition of paradise. 

Fun Fact: Measuring about 8 km (5 miles) North to South, the island is so small, you can walk across it in less than an hour. 

4. Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

The beating heart of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, commonly known as Saigon, is a hub for culture, commerce, and reinvention.

Explore the bustling city on a motorbike and taste the country's unique history by visiting local street food stalls. 

Fun Fact: Approximately 1.5 million motorbikes enter Ho Chi Min City every day. In comparison to every car, the city has 25 motorbikes.  

5. Jacob’s Well, Texas

A natural wonder only an hour away from Austin Texas. Even at the peak of summer, Jacob’s Well’s natural spring water maintains a temperature of 20 celsius. 

Fun Fact: Jacob’sWell is also known as one of the most dangerous diving spots in the world

6. Lisbon, Portugal

Officially Western Europe’s least expensive capital, immerse yourself in its rich history and culture at any budget. 

Fun Fact: Lisbon was completely destroyed and rebuilt following the earthquake of 1755. Reminders of the earthquake are found throughout the country. 

7. Maui, Hawaii

The perfect island for those searching for relaxation and/or action. Sunbathe on a sandy beach, tour a pineapple farm, or go on a snorkeling tour.  

Fun Fact: Interested in whale watching? Approximately 10,000 humpback whales migrate to Maui each year.

8. Mexico City, Mexico

The capital of Mexico, is a hub for culture, heritage, and opportunity. The rich history of Mexico’s Aztec period, Spanish colonialism, and revolution is intertwined with the modern city it has now become.

Fun Fact: The country Mexico was named after its capital, therefore Mexico City had its name first. 

9. New Orleans, Louisiana

Known for its round the clock nightlife, vibrant music scene, and flavourful cuisine due to its combination of French, African, and American cultures. New Orleans is truly a city that never sleeps.

Fun Fact: The first Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans occurred in the 1800s. Plan your trip around the iconic carnival here

10. Porto, Portugal

Delicious food and wine, stunning architecture, rich history, and charismatic people. 

Fun Fact: Port wine is named after Porto due to it originally being the hub of packaging and exporting the fortified wine. A trip to Porto would be incomplete without a port wine cellar tour

11. Rapa Nui, Isla de Pascua, Chile

Also known as Easter Island, Rapa Nui is an inhabited island off the coast of Chile. Immerse yourself in its mysterious Moai statues, pink sand beaches, grasslands and volcanoes. 

Fun Fact: The name Easter Island derived from Dutch explorer, Jacob Roggenen who encountered it on Easter Sunday. 

12. Republic of Maldives

If paradise calls, it’s likely an island from the Maldives. Consisting of 1,200 small coral islands, most resorts are on their own private island, meaning that any hotel you choose will have its own beautiful beach. 

Fun Fact: With an average altitude of 1.8 metres from sea level, the Maldives is the flattest country in the world. Due to its low height and rising sea levels, The Maldives is predicted to be completely submerged into the ocean by 2030. 

13. Tokyo, Japan

A hub for cultural experiences, food, technology, and so much more. Tokyo is a city where tradition collides with the future.  

Fun Fact: Tokyo is the highest populated urban metropolis in the world. 

14. Santorini, Greece

One of the most romantic islands in Greece has a growing reputation as a wedding destination. 

Spend a day on a white, red, black or pebble volcanic beach and watch the sunset over the turquoise waters. 

Fun Fact: Santorini is the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history. The eruption occurred 3,600 years ago, however the island remains to be the most active volcanic centre in the  South Aegean Volcanic Arc. 

15. Reykjavik, Iceland

The capital of Iceland, where modernity collides with nature. Whale watch during the day, recharge at a year round outdoor pool, and end the night out in town. 

From September to March see the Northern Lights from your window in Reykjavik or book a tour

Fun Fact: Iceland was the last place to be settled by humans and is the youngest landmass in the world. 

16. Seoul, Korea

Visit the metropolis where modern skyscrapers, technology, and pop culture meet traditional Buddhist temples, street markets and palaces. 

Fun Fact: As much as a modern city Seoul is, over 50% of South Korea is cloaked in forest. 

17. Singapore, Singapore

A city of contrasts. From street food to world renowned Michelin star restaurants, modern skyscrapers to traditional architecture, and so on. 

For another contrast, visit the Gardens by the Bay, a conservatory with award winning horticulture sites. Man made waterfalls and structures meet vibrant tropical vegetation.

Fun Fact: Singapore is one of only three surviving city-states in the world. The other two are Monaco and the Vatican City.

18. Philippines

Consisting of 7,640 islands, guests have much to see and explore in the Philippines. Hop from island to island to experience the most out of the beautiful country. 

Fun Fact: The country takes pride in sports, especially basketball. Following the NBA, The Philippines Basketball Association is the second oldest league in the world. 

19. Vancouver, British Columbia

A bustling city surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and Coast Mountains, it's a haven for cosmopolitan city seekers and nature lovers alike. 

Fun Fact: Vancouver was recently ranked as the third most “livable place in the world” for its high standard of living and quality of life and is ranked the 10th cleanest city in the world.

20. Paris, France

Full of rich culture and history, Paris is one of the most iconic destinations for a reason. 

Fun Fact: The Eiffel Tower was supposed to be a temporary installation, intended to stand for 20 years after being built for the 1889 World Fair.

21. Piedmonte, Italy

A foodies dream, Piemonte is known for its wines, fall truffles, mountains with ski resorts in the west and north. 

With many vineyard and wine cellar tours available, the majority of Italy’s best wines are found in the Piedmonte region. For the ultimate white truffle experience, dine in at one of many delicious restaurants or hunt for truffles along with an expert

Fun Fact: About 450 sq. miles (170,000 acres) of the region is covered by vineyards.

22. Venice, Italy

Italy’s ‘Floating City’, ‘City of Canals’ or ‘City of Water’ is one of the most popular destinations in the region for a reason. Made up of 100+ small islands connected by over 400 bridges, Venice is a truly unique destination. Why tour on foot when you can from a gondola

Fun Fact: In the last 50 years, the population of Venice has decreased from 120,000 to 60,000. Some experts believe Venice could be a ghost town by 2030 with only tourists visiting by day.
